11 Men’s Fall Style Essentials

With the sun disappearing behind the clouds, the temperature suddenly dropping, the leaves starting to change color, and the days of shorts and t-shirts are gone, fall is finally here. But fear not, because fall is the season of boots, leathers, and sweaters. Man’s favorite fashion and style season is quickly approaching, and here are 11 essential items for every stylish man!

1) Boots

The temperature is dropping, and your feet are starting to become cold in those lightweight sneakers and loafers. It’s finally time to take your boots out of the closet or pick up a new pair at the store! Boots come in all kinds of varieties, from dressier Allen Edmonds all the way to rugged Timberland work boots. Picking the right boot for you depends entirely on your job and daily activities, but a pair of suede or leather Chukka boots will fit in everyone’s fall wardrobe.

2) Sweaters

Sweaters are everyone’s favorite layering item. Lightweight crew or V-neck sweaters are a staple in men’s fall style. Nothing beats layering a great sweater over a dress shirt for a warm business casual look. And layering a sweater underneath a denim or leather jacket creates the ultimate fall outdoor look. Choose a lightweight sweater if you’re planning to layer and look for a more fashionable sweater if you’re choosing to go casual with just a sweater and jeans.

3) Dark Jeans

Mens Fall Dark Jeans

While summer is all about lighter colors, such as blue and white, fall is all about the dark colors. When picking up a pair of jeans, choose colors such as grey, black, and navy. These darker colors pair wonderfully with sweaters and boots, as well as accentuating leathers and accessories. When picking out a pair of jeans, look for slim fit, or a tapered fit. Nothing can destroy an outfit faster than big baggy jeans.

4) Denim Jacket

The denim jacket has gained tremendous popularity over recent years, and for good reason. Denim jackets are an absolute staple in every stylish man’s wardrobe. They can be layered with anything from t-shirts to sweaters depending on the temperature, plus they work well with both jeans and chinos. For an extra style upgrade, throw in a pair of suede or leather boots!

5) Leather Jacket

Mens Fall Leather Jackets

Here it is, the absolute number one in men’s fall outdoor wear, the leather jacket. Popularized by Hollywood and perfected by every fashionable and stylish man in the world, the black or brown leather jacket is a timeless and great option for fall. Leather jackets pair beautifully with the fall colors and are a ton of fun to layer with. When purchasing a leather jacket, make sure to size down if possible. A leather jacket should fit snug and become a little looser over time, as is true with all leathers. Nothing looks worse than a cheap box-fitted leather jacket!

6) Hoodies

While hoodies aren’t always the most stylish, they work very well during the fall. Hoodies can easily be layered underneath denim or leather jackets for a warm outdoor casual outfit. When shopping for hoodies, look for a lightweight zip-up hoodie. These are the easiest to layer, and they don’t require you to size up on the jackets you choose to layer over top!

7) Leather Belt

While canvas and fabric belts are still a great option, the fall season brings the leather belt back into rotation. All belts are not made for the same purpose, so make sure you purchase the right belt for the right occasion. While thin belts are perfect for professional or business casual outfits, thicker belts are great for a more casual and outdoorsy look. Just remember to always match your belt to your shoes!

8) Scarves

There is nothing more fashionable than accessorizing, and the best fall accessory, without a doubt, is the lightweight scarf. Not only does it upgrade your outfit instantly, it also keeps your neck nice and warm. During the fall season you don’t want to go with thick wool scarves because these are reserved for the freezing cold days of winter. A thin lightweight scarf worn overtop a thicker sweater looks absolutely phenomenal!

9) Leather Watch

Watches are the perfect way to accessorize any outfit, and as mentioned before, leather is autumn’s best friend. Purchase watchstraps that match or accentuate your existing outfits. This way you don’t have to build an outfit around a watch, but you use the watch as an accessory. This makes it a lot easier to wear and costs a whole lot less money in the long run. I recommend sticking with black and brown leathers in a variety of finishes to match any occasion!

10) Long Sleeve Henley

Here it is again, the Henley. During the summer it’s best to stick with short sleeve Henley shirts, but now that the sun doesn’t shine as bright, it’s time to bring out those long sleeve Henley shirts. They are great for layering, as well as just lounging about at home. Don’t forget to roll up your sleeves to show off a little forearm, the ladies love it!

11) Blazer or Sport Coat

While wearing a blazer during the summer is possible, you will often choose to take it off and just walk or sit around in a shirt or dress shirt. It simply gets too hot to wander around in a jacket all day. Fortunately for every stylish man, the temperature drops just enough during the fall that your favorite blazer is the perfect jacket to wear during your day-to-day activities. Sport coats are also a great option during the fall, they are a little less formal but work remarkably well in dressing up some of your more casual fall outfits!

Men’s fall style is all about natural colors, layering, and leathers. Whether you’re rocking a leather jacket over a sweater, a blazer over a Henley, or a scarf over a denim jacket, you’re going to look phenomenal in the fall with any of these 11 items!

Top 9 Things Every Man Needs in His Wardrobe

There are certain items that every single man is absolutely required to own. Whether it’s a dress shirt for a special occasion, or a baseball cap and shades for those times when the sun comes shining through.

Being a man means being prepared, and these 9 items are simply my top picks out of a large list of items every man needs in his wardrobe.

1) A Watch

Maurice Lacroix Wrist Watch

Nowadays everyone carries a cellphone around and men believe the need to wear a watch is quickly fading away. Realistically though, this couldn’t be any further from the truth. A wrist watch is a fantastic way to show off your accessory style game, and a great conversation starter.

When buying a watch, you need to know what occasion you’re buying the watch for first. Just like shoes, a watch is not a one-size-fits-all item. A sports watch does not fly in a business meeting, and you probably do not want to wear a high-end Rolex in the gym. A quick tip is to look at the shoes you’re wearing and find a watch to match that level of formality

2) Chinos

Originally used in the military during the Spanish-American War, the chinos were designed with tapered legs to conserve materials. Overtime the chino became even slimmer and the chino today has varying levels of fit to accommodate a large variety of people’s tastes.

Chinos also come in a variety of colors, the most versatile of which is tan (or light brown). These pair well with nearly anything, from t-shirts to dress shirts. But if you’re looking to raise your style game, grab a pair of sky blue chinos and match them with walnut oxfords and a white dress shirt for the ultimate business casual summer look!

3) Sunglasses

Sunglasses on Desk

Not only a fantastic accessory, but also absolutely the most important item a man should wear when going out into the sun, a pair of stylish sunglasses. The sun sends out harmful Ultraviolet radiation which can cause severe damage to the eyes, luckily sunglasses helps to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun.

When shopping for sunglasses you need to find the best shades to accentuate and compliment your face shape and features. There are four main categories: Round, Oval, Square and Heart.

Oval faces can pull off nearly anything. With a round face you’ll want to stick with square edges. With a square face you should stick with rounded shades. And with a heart shaped face, you’ll want to find light and small frame sunglasses.

4) Jeans

Jeans have been on men’s required wardrobe list for decades. When they were invented in 1873 they were used as sturdy work pants for the everyday man, but as they evolved over the years jeans have become an absolute staple in every man’s wardrobe.

A classic pair of slim fit navy jeans is easily the most versatile option. You can dress it up with dress shoes and a dress shirt or dress it down with sneakers and a t-shirt. Just note that ripped jeans can absolutely not be dressed up in a professional setting.

5) Leather Jacket

Leather jackets

There is a time and place for peacoats and puffer jackets, but it’s always the right time for a black leather jacket. When buying a leather jacket, make sure the materials state natural and not synthetic. Synthetic leathers, or faux leathers, simply do not hold up as long as their natural counterparts do. Real leather also looks better as it ages, whereas synthetic leather starts to fade and tear after only a few months of use.

Popularized by Hollywood in the 40s and 50s, the leather jacket with its durable and sturdy material has stood the test of time and earned itself a prime spot in the must buy list for every single guy.

6) Baseball Cap

You probably didn’t expect baseball cap to be on this list. Everyone has those lazy days where you just toss on a hat and walk out the door. You don’t need to be attending a baseball game or playing sports to wear one either. Nowadays, everybody, from the ultra-rich to the average joe, is wearing a baseball cap.

Finding the right baseball cap is as simple as picking a color, choosing a brand, and finding the right size. Men simply look great in a baseball cap, so pick your favorite and don’t forget to throw on a great pair of shades too.

7) Dress shirt & 8) Dress Shoes

Dress shoes and dress shirt

These two basically go hand-in-hand. Regardless of your professional life, every man needs a dress shirt and dress shoes for the occasional wedding or job interview. If you’re not in a business profession you probably don’t need a variety of dress shoes and dress shirts, so look for something that can be mixed and matched with lots of different outfits.

When shopping for a dress shoe, stick with brown colors in a simple lace up design. Walnut or dark brown lace ups are the most versatile options because you can dress them up or down depending on the outfit.

If you don’t need multiple dress shirts and only need one or two for the special occasion, pick up a white or business blue dress shirt. These look great with any skin tone and can be worn with the brown dress shoes you just picked up, and a classic pair of chinos or jeans depending on the event.

9) Leather Belt

Finally, to tie it all together, a classic leather belt. If your pants have loops, wear a belt. Nothing makes an outfit go from a 10 to a 1 faster than forgetting to wear a belt. Belts come in all sorts of styles and sizes, but as a rule of thumb, slim belts are formal and big belts or belt buckles are casual.

When shopping for a belt you want to find a size where the belt will close around the middle hole. This will look the best and give you some wiggle room if your waistline happens to change. Final belt tip: always color match your shoes and belt.

Men should strive to have an outfit in their wardrobe for any occasion. You never know when your best friend is getting married, when your dream job is hiring, or when your girlfriend wants to take a stroll along the beach.

As a man you need to be prepared for anything, and your wardrobe is a fantastic place to start!
